Avi was born Abraham Rothman in Costa Mesa, California. He was brought up by his father, Dr. Ronald Rothman, and his mother, Lilyana Rothman, who moved to California from Transylvania, Romania. Mr. Rothman is the youngest of his three siblings Yehudit, Sarita and Ilan Rothman.

He attended Estancia High School in Costa Mesa and went on to join, The Groundlings, an improv and sketch comedy troupe/ school in Los Angeles, California, where he honed his comedic acting skills. Avi was inspired to pursue a career in comedy after performing in his high school’s annual sketch show.

Rothman’s big break came in 2006 when he starred in ‘Ogden: The Inappropriate Yoga Guy, a short comedy film that he had written that was inspired by characters and real-life experiences from his yoga classes.

Avi is currently happily married to movie star Kristen Carol Wiig. Kristen, 48, is an American actor, comedienne, and renowned writer. She is famous for her hosting ‘Saturday Night Live’ and her role as Jill on ‘Knocked Up’ (2007), to name but a few.

Avi and Kristen started dating in early 2016. They had managed to keep their relationship under wraps until they caught the media’s attention when they were spotted passionately kissing at an exotic Hawaii beach.
