Kyle Rittenhouse is a 19-year-old American teenager born in Antioch, Illinois, on 3rd January 2003. Rittenhouse, who is viewed as a pro-police, pro-Trump, and right-wing vigilante figure, was a regular teenager until the events of the Kenosha Unrest shooting took place. On the 25th of August 2020, Rittenhouse, who was 17 years old at the time, claimed that he had traveled 20 miles from his Illinois home to Kenosha armed with an AR15 rifle to protect property from the civil unrest caused by Black Lives Matter protestors.

Kyle is said to have responded to an invitation from the right-wing Kenosha Guard Militia to assist and guard local businesses against the unrest sparked by the Police killing of George Floyd and Jacob Blake.

It is reported that Kyle was cleaning BLM graffiti and anti-police slogans when a local car dealership owner requested locals for assistance in the protection of his premises.

Kyle and his newly found comrades from the militia group hurriedly accepted the call and began patrolling the streets around the dealership after arriving on the scene.

Joseph Rosenbaum, a 36-year-old local, attempted to the gun away from Kyle, which led to Rittenhouse shooting him four times which resulted in death.

A crowd of protestors began pursuing Kyle across a parking lot after the first shooting. In his haste, Kyle lost his footing and onto the ground. Protestor ‘Anthony Huber, 26, began striking Kyle with a skateboard leading to him being fatally shot as well.

Gaige Grosskreutz, 27, a protester, initially raised his hands to reach for a handgun. Kyle shot him as well; however, he lived to tell the tale.

Is Kyle Rittenhouse Guilty?

Rittenhouse was arrested at his mother’s house on five charges. One charge of first-degree reckless homicide, two counts of recklessly endangering safety, one count of first-degree intentional homicide, and one count of attempted first-degree intentional homicide.

He was found not guilty on 19th November 2021, and acquitted of all charges, a ruling that has divided the opinion of many who were following the news and court proceedings about the case.

His legal representatives argued that he was acting in self-defense since his life was in danger as he was fending off an attacking mob.

Right-wingers claimed, in support of Kyle, that the slain protestors were criminals and sex offenders. Public opinion on the incident and the trial’s outcome remains highly polarizing to date.

Family, Parents, Sister

Kyle’s mother, Wendy Rittenhouse, is a certified nursing assistant. She is also a single mother to Kyle and his two siblings, Faith, 21, and McKenzie, 17.

Outside of Wendy’s profession, there is little available information about her in what seems to be a deliberate effort to keep a low profile due to the events that took place and the court proceedings that followed.
